A new me?

Okay…so after years and years of fighting with myself and others I’ve decided to take the plunge and get braces.  Yeah I said it…braces (sometimes I can’t even believe it).

According to the computer screen at the orthodontist’s office I am 28 years and 9 months (very accurate!)…and now I am wearing braces.

As I was growing up I never even thought about getting my teeth corrected (gap closed).  On my mom’s side of the family all of my cousins and some of my aunts and uncles have or had a space in the front of their teeth.
I started to hear more about it from others during my senior year in college.

People said you’re going into broadcasting and your look is important and anything that is distracting to the viewer needs to be eliminated.  So for a while I’ve gone through various internships and jobs unfazed by the comment but as the years went on and more comments kept on coming I decided…what the heck…it can’t hurt right?

Actually for the past two years I’ve been researching various methods and found these braces to be much better for me because of time and money.

So here I am, metal mouth, and adjusting to the new me.  I am thankful its only supposed to take 6 months!

So if you’ve ever had braces or kids with braces and can give any advice I’d truly appreciate it!

I am trying to build my confidence back up although I think I look 12:(

SIDE NOTE:

After two days on air…the braces are barely noticeable on the tv screen (depending on the camera shot)…thank God! I just kind of have a shiny mouth…ha ha ha!

And thanks to Sharia Davis for making the trip with me!

    Tiff-

Here is my best braces tip (after 2 1/2 years with them.) If your mouth gets sore after any tightening or other work on the braces, eat a peppermint patty. I swear it works! It must be something with the mint, or the chocolate! Whatever it is, it helped ease the pain.

I had braces for about 2 and a half years, you will get used to them. I have such small teeth that they practically covered my teeth. My advice is when you get them off, WEAR THE RETAINERS! I wore mine for a long time, then I slacked off..Now they don’t fit at all. 6 months will fly by!

Thanks for the responses! I wish I would’ve known about the patty trick a lot sooner!
