Do-de-do-do…

I felt like I was in some sort of Twilight Zone tonight –  a night that was originally meant to last just a few hours, but felt like it lasted forever.

In chronological order, here’s what I did:

  • Realized I wore black shoes with a brown belt. Oops.
  • Went to a rollover accident in Cygnet; ran into the most of deputies from the “On Patrol” and upcoming “First Responders” series, as well as a Rossford medic who doubles as a Life Flight medic — I saw him at my Life Flight ride-along training and on a RFD ride-along, now he thinks I’m following him.
  • Almost had a guy run into my news Jeep crossing Route 25 in Bowling Green. He looked like he was being chased, so I flagged down BGPD and they found a fight. Same fight? Not sure.
  • Stopped at I-75 at the South Avenue exit because a woman’s car had broken down in the “express” lane — the part that’s under construction.  Someone had already helped push her car out of the lane, I wanted to push her even further behind the barrels to get keep her from getting hit. Waited around until she told me a tow truck was very close and I could go. Very nice lady.
  • Drove down Monroe Street on my way to check out a call and spotted a Jaguar, on the sidewalk, spinning its tires next to the Toledo Museum of Art.  It had just knocked down a light pole and power lines and, I thought I should block him from going on Monroe Street, but decided I didn’t want to explain it to my boss if my Jeep got rammed. Followed the car, while on the phone with 9-1-1, all the way to Nebraska and Junction where police caught him. Amazingly, they tell me he wasn’t drunk — just scared. That’s why he didn’t stop when he hit a utility pole. Stupid.
  • Went to a minor-injury shooting at Dorr and Hoag. Found out that a news outlet in Tokyo called the TPD detective bureau about the now world-famous Toledo shootout.
  • Got a hot chocolate/cappuccino mix and a doughnut from a gas station. Hello, regret…
  • Walked home in 35-ish degree weather, dug out my gloves and earmuffs to stuff in the pockets of my winter FOX Toledo jacket, and made a list of all the stuff I had done tonight.

In all, I met some really great people, gathered a few more random stories to share and shot some video that’ll show up on the news Sunday night, First at 10.

I really love my job.
