A way to spend a rainy day

March 31st, 2010 at 9:11 pm by under Uncategorized

I decided to make the most of a rainy day this past weekend. We colored Easter eggs!

The entire afternoon kinda evolved. It first started with me inviting the neighbor girls over to play with my son. I had some crafts for them to do, so I figured it would keep them occupied for a while. Boy was I wrong. They tore though those crafts in about 6 minutes flat. I needed some way to entertain them and keep them from destroying the house. That’s when I broke out the eggs.

I had picked up a simple egg coloring kit on a whim. I fetched it from my Easter stash and boiled some eggs. I also grabbed stickers and crayons to decorate the eggs with. It was a blast. I can’t remember the last time a colored eggs. Kelan has been too young in the past. This year he did great. And Macee (7) and Charlee (10) seem to be expert egg dyers. Now I just need to figure out what to do with three dozen boiled eggs!

Here are some pics of our masterpieces:

Time Away

Last weekend my husband and Itook a little getaway, by ourselves, without our daughter.  I found a great deal on an all inclusive resort in Cancun.  This was our third trip to Cancun and this was the best resort we stayed at.  It was called Cancun Caribe Park Royal (if you haven’t been there in a while, it is the former Hyatt.)

I would give this resort a high recommendation.  The service was great, it was extremely clean and the food was outstanding.  It was a quiet resort, and geared more towards adults.

But here is where I need your help.  Next time we go back….in a year or so….we would like to take along our 3 year old daughter and our parents.  So we are looking for a nice resort our parents would enjoy with good food and a kid friendly resort that my daughter would enjoy.  Any suggestions???  Let me know!

Calorie King

March 30th, 2010 at 5:25 pm by under Uncategorized

I recently found a good tool for counting calories.  All you have to do is go to www.calorieking.com and search for a specific food and the calories, fat, and carbohydrate count will appear.

This is especially cool for finding the calorie count in restaurant food.

I know that the health care bill includes putting calories on the menu at more than 200-thousand resturants, but until then, you may find this resource helpful.  I have always loved Arby’s mozzerella sticks, but they are 432 calories.  I would have never known.

Wrong

“Joe that interview with Gray Jackson, I didn’t see it on Janice’s report,” I asked him early that morning.

“Oh yeah Lee, I wanted to talk to you about that.  Jackson called about the interview and thought it would be best to keep it private,” he said while rifling through papers on his desk.  “The issue with his disorder, well he didn’t think it was wise to broadcast yet.”

“When have you ever cared about someone’s feelings Joe?” I inquired.

“When he used the words big lawsuit,” he answered.

I understood where Joe was coming from.  If a person is interviewed on a specific subject and decides later that he or she doesn’t want it to be used, as journalists we have to respect their privacy.

“I understand, it was a touchy subject,” I uttered as I sat in the chair across from his desk.

“Yeah the poor Son of a bastard cost me an arm and a leg,” he angrily said.

“Why is that?” I asked concerned.

“I do have to pay the reporter who interviewed him don’t I?” he said sarcastically.

**********************************************************************

I spoke to Sam this morning and told him Paula was in town for a couple of days and we were going out.  He, as always, didn’t mind but told me to call him once I got home.  I felt bad for lying to him.  I couldn’t tell him I was going out with someone I used to love and may still have feelings for.

The game was a success.  The east coast beat the west coast by 15 points.  I drove to Union Station to meet Gray at B Smith’s, it was five minutes before 11:00pm, and he was right on time.

“Hiya buddy,” Gray said sounding excited. “Glad you could make it.”

“Well, we’ll end it on a good note,” I replied.

Dinner was fantastic.  The both of us laughed and joked basically all night.  We talked about everything from grade school to college, who we to liked and who we didn’t like.  It was almost like old times.  Almost.

“Excuse me Gray, I have to go the ladies room,” I said rising giddily from the table.

At first I was afraid of someone seeing me with Gray.  Sam is not only a prosecuting attorney but he’s also a lawyer for Senator George Little of Virginia.  So everyone knew the both of us.

“I had too much to drink,” I said out loud to myself while leaning on one of the bathroom stalls.

I haven’t had this much to drink since college.  I’m in no condition to drive home at all. I’ll take a cab and pick up my car in the morning, I thought as I walked back to the table drunkenly.

“Lee are you ok?” Gray asked concerned.

“Of course I am, I just had a little bit too much,” my speech slurred thick.

“Well here drink some water,” Gray said as he poured more water into my glass. “It’ll make you feel better, besides I don’t want anything to happen to that beautiful body of yours,” he added.

“Thank you. Jeez, look at the time it’s almost one in the morning, I better get going.”

“How are you going to go home in that condition,” he asked seriously.

“I’ll be fine I’ll take a cab,” I said laughing at his concern.

“Don’t be ridiculous Lee, I’ll have my driver take you home,” he said.

“No don’t bother I’ll be…” Fine, I thought, just fine.  It was my last coherent thought.

Reality

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping, I rolled over and glanced at the clock.  Under the covers my bed felt more comfortable than I’d remembered.

“Good Morning Sunshine,” a voice said in my ear.  I could feel my fiancée body up against mine.  But when did he come back?

“Good Morning, Sa…” I said as turned around and realized it wasn’t Sam, it was Gray!  “Gray, oh my goodness, what is going on, what happened last night?”  I asked jumping out of bed grabbing for my clothes including my underwear.

Tune in next week

Orange Crushed

March 25th, 2010 at 11:26 pm by under Uncategorized

I am writing this blog in a cloud. My Syracuse Orange basketball team just lost in a crushing defeat at the hands of Butler.
Now I am not going to debate offensive strategy or turnover problems.
I bring up the game because of the amount of time I said “We” and “Us” tonight. Of course I was not playing in the game, at the game, still a student, or even in the state of Utah tonight. But I still consider myself a part of the school 7 years after graduation.
I know it irks people when you say “We” and “Us” for a professional team, but is there a line for college? If you were a Syracuse student, are you always a part of the school? Are you always an Orange (man)?
Tonight I will vote yes, but if I see another 12 turnovers in the first half again in an NCAA tourney game I may lean toward No.

Heading back to Music City

March 25th, 2010 at 7:43 pm by under Uncategorized

I’m heading off to Nashville for Easter to see my sister. It is beginning to become somewhat of a tradition. Nikki and her husband, Frank, live down there and sing in many of the honky tonk bars along Music City’s famous Broadway.

I have never actually run in to any country music star while I’ve been the visiting. However, my sister had run across a few while paying the clubs. And, my mom passed by Taylor Swift in downtown Nashville while visiting sis last month.

I do have tickets to see some stars while I’m there. We have tickets to see the Grand Ole Opry. Vince Gill is one of the headliners. They have yet to announce who else will take the stage, but I’m sure whoever it is will be great.

We are taking my three-year-old to the Opry. Last time we went he stayed with grandma. So, needless to say, it could be an adventure. He loves music, especially guitars. My biggest fear is he will try to jump up on stage and join the band.

I plan to shoot plenty of video and take lots of pictures to put up on the blog, so be sure to check back. And, if you have any suggestions of any places I should check out in Nashville, be sure to pass them along.

Idols All Around!!!

March 25th, 2010 at 12:57 pm by under Face of FOX Toledo

While I was in LA, I was fortunate enough to do some exploring in between the American Idol excitement (keep a close watch on my page to see some of my adventures in the next few weeks)!

One of my good friends from high school, Bill Delia, currently lives in Santa Monica and was nice enough to show me around! Plus, hanging out with Bill was American Idol appropriate, seeing as he is an amazing drummer in a band called LA VIE. AND, to go even deeper into the Idol theme, the band just completed a video for their single “Rain On My Parade,” which features artist Alaina Alexander: an American Idol Top 24 contestant on Season Six!

Idol is all around us…don’t you love it?! Click here to see LA VIE’s single “Rain On My Parade”!

Here’s an inside look at an American Idol photo shoot in LA.  It’s at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, CA.  The idol contestants spent 13 hours taking photos, talking with reporters, and getting made over!

So much fun!

There’s no turning back…

March 23rd, 2010 at 8:28 pm by under News, Uncategorized

or is there?  It’s official I’ve finally signed up for the Glass City Marathon on April 25th.  I’m running the half…or should I say walking/jogging the half LOL!

My cousin and her friend are coming from Detroit to run with me and my sister may join too.  It’s strange because I haven’t been training with anyone so I’m not sure how it will be on the day of the race to run with someone.  However Allison Brown and I may start training together in the coming weeks.

So here we go….time to get intense and get very serious, there’s about a month left!!!! PRAY FOR ME!!!!!
