When it comes to movies, I study them instead of watching them for pure enjoyment. In order for me to give a Movie a grade A it has to be magnificent. The storyline has to be told in a way I could never imagine. The shooting has to be unique but just right! The acting has to be superb. When it comes to special effects directors must take a class from my Godfather, aka James Cameron! So here’s what I thought about Planet of the Apes.
Overall I give the movie a B. On Sunday Jennifer Steck and I did a double feature. We saw Planet of the Apes, and Captain America. I refuse to speak about Captain America. The only part I remember in that movie, is when Derek Luke mentioned he went to Howard. Ha!
But back to the Apes movie. After it was over I gave it a C+ because I really didn’t like the storyline, and I thought the special effects was a little bit too much.
But then after dreaming about the movie that night, I woke up in excitement and said to myself, wait a minute Sharia, that movie was really good. I still don’t think it deserves an A, but I give it a B. Why? Well here are my reasons.
#1 – I really enjoyed the way the movie was shot. As a reporter who shoots her own stories, I’m always looking for new and creative ways to shoot. Watching that movie, I was able to capture a few ideas.
#2 – The acting… I’m not a huge fan of James Franco. I think he’s really cute, but the acting was ok. I was more impressed with the way the primates acted throughout the whole movie, because those were actual humans.
#3 – Special Effects… OMG OMG OMG, seeing those primates jump around and act like apes literally was really impressive because as I mentioned before, they were humans. The director used WETA digital effects, making the humans act, and using Weta special effects to make them as apes. If you’re confused, just think of my Godfather’s famous movie Avatar.
#4 – The storyline… It was ok, I just think it could have been a little bit better. The storyline was too predictable. And sometimes those types of movies lose me at Hello.
That’s my critique. Go and check it out and let me know what you think.
