Tee it up

The US Senior Open is here and for some in this community this has been a labor of love for the past years. I am hopeful for a couple of things as we get into the weekend of play.
I hope people see Toledo as a great place to come visit and a place has some great amenities.
I hope Northwest Ohio comes out to support this because that’s the way we get the bigger things, is by supporting the things that come though.
And most of all I hope you enjoy it. Even non golf fans will enjoy the spectacle and the show that comes along with such a big event.
Don’t forget your sunscreen.

Stop it now…

I know we have talked extensively about the heat in the last few days, but slowly we are starting to see a new story bubble to the top. It’s a story we have seen before, a story that is getting old and a story that’s getting more and more dangerous.
Of course I am talking about the recent rash of arson fires in the city. Unfortunately counting the number of fires is getting difficult but that does not even begin to describe the toll it takes on firefighters. What happens when something serious comes in and these guys are busy with something started by some bored kids?
So how can we help, what can all of us do? It’s all about being aware. Right now, if we see anyone running in and out of an abandoned home or building we need to step up. We can’t assume anything, we need to call police. Plus there is now a $5000 incentive to do it.
Now is the time because any later could be the worst one.

It’s a leap of faith….

I am about to have on of those circle of life moments. We are going to take our daughter to an amusement park called Sesame Place. It’s in Pennsylvania and has all the Sesame characters and parades and a waterpark.
The circular part is that I used to work there as a teen. Bright green shorts, picture that.
Going to be amazing to see how she views the places for the first time, as I see it for the first time in years.
Cue the Elton John song.

Please, Please, Please….

I am trying to wrap my head around the mystery that is potty training. How is it that a child can master half of it, yet have no interest in the other half.
Maybe I am not doing something right. I try to sit down and have rational conversations with a 3 year old, but it just falls on deaf ears. I don’t think yelling it going to get the point across. Scaring the child won’t do it either.
I keep hearing from people, they will do it when they are ready. How come their “ready” is not my “ready”?
Who knew kids would make me wax so poetic? Is there a higher force here? Or am I just tired of buying pull ups? You know they make them with Dora or Princesses.

Stronger

I won’t get the phrase exactly right, but it goes something like what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Well I guess me and my family fit in those categories somewhere. We lost my Grandmom this week. At 90 years young. To quote my Aunt, she was the first and best Mrs. Hegarty.
Check out this site to learn more about her.

June, we missed you

June 2nd, 2011 at 11:24 pm by under Uncategorized

I don’t think I have ever uttered the phrase, “I am so glad June is here” but with how crazy May was for my family…. Welcome June.

Maybe a new calendar can change your outlook, change your fate, change your direction. It might be more of a mindset thing, but maybe it will comfort my mind a little bit.

Hi June, stick around for a while. Just don’t bring that May with you.

Dad

Call your dad when you are done reading this blog, just to say hi. Give him a hug next time you see him. Take him to a Mud Hens game this summer. Trust me, they’ll all be worth it.

We interrupt this broadcast…

Tough to admit this but I learned of Osama Bin Laden’s death on Bravo TV. Yes, my wife had the Real Housewives of somewhere on and during this live recap show the guy says something like it’s weird talking about this when we now know Bin Laden is dead.
WHAT…. No talk about the dinner party gone awry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Information has traveled fast in the past few days. Social media is now passing around a phony picture of Bin Laden’s death. Everyday there is a new theory about what “really” happened. Couple that with the joke of the day that makes its rounds on facebook… like the one about the friend request.
I guess we have learned that all sources these days need to be considered when you are hearing your news these days. With the internet anyone can say anything. Just be careful of the ”anyone” you getting that information from.

Show some respect

April 20th, 2011 at 12:09 am by under Uncategorized

Sometimes in the news business the stories start to run together and we lose some perspective. But it’s been hard to ignore all of the police shootings not only around the nation, but ones happening in our own back yard.
In the last three months we have lost an officer, had one shot in the leg and another fired upon several times in his squad car. I get the idea that bad guys don’t have respect for police officers because that’s what in part makes them bad guys, but when did shooting them become the trend?
We had a psychologist on our air compare it to the 20’s and 30’s and prohibition times. Never do we want it to get that bad, but could it be?
Let’s hope our respect level for those protecting us starts moving in the right direction.

Happy Birthday

April 8th, 2011 at 6:45 am by under Uncategorized

Big weekend. We officially have a three year old. Probably a little cheesy to use one of those time flies references here. But I gotta say that time flies.
Hard to believe that three years ago at this times we were expecting a child and our lives are so very different now. If you haven’t heard we are expecting another one in November, so we will only be one away from a basketball team.
Kids are an amazing thing, full of love joy and just enough energy to make you wanna pull your hair out some days.
So I say happy birthday this weekend to our little one. And congrats to two parents on three years of a job well done.
